Magic formula for Happiness

Say, you are expecting a 10% hike in this appraisal. You get 4% hike. what would you do? Chances are high that you will get mad at your manager and blame your company for this. But, in fact it’s you and your Expectations which needs to be blamed for this mess. Not clear?

As per a scientific research conducted by the scientists of National Academy of Sciences, “the secret of happiness is all about lowering your expectations”.

Let’s consider the same scenario again.

Say, you were expecting no hikes in this appraisal and you got 4% hike. You would be much happier with these 4% hike. Thus, its not the hike but your expectation which is making you happy or sad. Making sense?

Lets understand this mathematically.

HAPPINESS=REALITY/EXPECTATION, where REALITY=What you have, EXPECTATION=What you want. So, in simpler terms, the Secret of happiness is having low Expectations. One’s happiness levels are inversely
proportional to one’s expectations.

Happiness depends on how well things are going as per your expectations. If it is going better than your expectation, then you are happier. If things are going worse than expected, then you are not happy. Disappointment is the result of your expectations. or Should I say due to your over expectations? Too many disappointments are usually due to too many expectations.

In summary, you have 2 options. One, set high expectations and chase for them. There are high chances that you will be disappointed. Two, set low expectations or no expectations at all. Chances are high that your life would be better than expected. So, have less expectations in life and get amazed by life’s offerings.

Stop chasing, start living. That’s Happiness.
